What is, in all of your humble opinions, the best internal dvd burner? I am looking at, in order:
1. Reliability
2. Cost
3. Speed

I am considering something like the TDK 440N, Sony DRU 510A, Plextor PX-504A.
Thanks for your input.

I currently own an LG Electronics -RW and love it. I paid $150 at newegg.com for a full retail boxed version. I've also used the Pioneer drives with great success. Newegg has both multiformat drives -RW/+RW for $134 w/ free shipping.

FWIW, do NOT buy a +RW drive...unless it's a multiformat (+/-). +RW does not even come close to the compatibility with non-computer drives/players as -RW. I don't know about the published stats, but this has been my experience helping people with +RW drives.

Hope this helps.

I have the Plextor PX-708A, it costs 2.000 DKK, which is about $280. Quite expensive but really good, supports all formats with a max speed at 8X. I'd go with the Plextor, they're known for q uality.

As someone with a +RW drive, I agree.

I see the Plextor 504a is only +r/rw and the best price I can find on the 708a is 191.00 (US), I will have to eliminate Plextor.

In my opinion...the Sony DRU-510a is the best overall DVD burner. Plextor is quality...but also expensive. The sony drive supports all formats of DVD media...we bought the external model at our job and it came with lots of software and so far haven't seen a single problem. The 510a is the internal model. You can find it for about $150-$200 depending on where you shop.

The Sony looks interesting. Right now it looks like a tossup between the Sony DRU 510A and the Memorex Dual-X, with the TDK 440N a close contender.

I'd get the sony then.

Or learn how to use a very fine pointed needle and scratch the data into the dvd.
on Dec 14, 2003
I don't know. The Memorex has some pretty good reviews. And my wife has the needles put away.

I would just get a 52x CD RW and save some money.

I was trying to point out that A dvd burner is a waste of $$$ IMHO. They have DVD burners that work like VCRs now for your home entertainment system.

And with the copyright protection on DVD movies they are hard to copy.

So really what benefit decides the ability to save 4+ Gigabytes of info on a CD does a DVD burner have?
